Economy Car Hire have come up with a list of our top 5 alternative beaches to visit in Malta for those who are looking for something a bit more relaxed and a little less lively.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Malta<\/a> and its sister islands Gozo and Comino may be small in size but they certainly pack a punch with holidaymakers. The popular destination attracts sun worshippers, historians and extreme sportsmen alike and they all gravitate towards the beach. However, with a rocky shoreline stretching round most of the Maltese coast its main sandy beaches, such as Mellieha and Golden Bay, can become busy and overcrowded.<\/p>\n

Ghajn Tuffieha<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the most unspoiled beaches in Malta, Ghajn Tuffieha can be found in the north west part of Malta. It is in fact one of the three beaches that form the Golden Bay chain. This particular beach can only be accessed by a flight of 200 stone steps down the cliff. While the descent\/ascent may put off some visitors, the peaceful atmosphere creates a much coveted relaxing environment. Sun loungers and parasols are available once you reach the beach. There is also a small snack bar meaning you have the benefit of all the amenities without the crowds. Enjoy the day soaking up the sun and bathing in the shallow waters. Ghajn Tuffieha is also a fantastic spot for spectacular sunset views and is well worth hanging around for.<\/p>\n

Mgarr ix- Xini<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although small, this beach certainly doesn\u2019t lack in beauty or tranquillity. Set in a deep valley it is accessible by car and is one of the most secluded beaches in Gozo. Be warned it is a pebbly beach so you may want to come prepared with something comfortable to sit on. The stunning clear waters and little caves and high rocks on either side of the bay make it a great spot for swimming, snorkelling and even diving. The entrance to this charming cove is guarded by a 17th century tower and it also marks the start of a pretty walk along a restored ancient pathway down to the beach.<\/p>\n

St Peter\u2019s Pool<\/strong><\/p>\n

St Peter\u2019s Pool is without a doubt one of Malta\u2019s hidden gems. Located near Marsaxlokk this stunning natural pool is a local secret and the perfect spot to spend a relaxing day away from busy crowds and the more touristy spots. The pool is surrounded by flat rocks which warmed by the sun are perfect for sunbathing whilst the pool itself is crystal clear and ideal for snorkelling. Be sure to pack a picnic as there aren\u2019t any facilities here; however its seclusion is genuinely a part of its charm.<\/p>\n

Blue Lagoon, Comino<\/strong><\/p>\n

Be sure to take the ferry over to Comino, and spend the day exploring the wonders of the Blue Lagoon. This stunning bay has two white sandy beaches to choose from surrounded by large rocks which make great sunbeds as well as the perfect perch from which to leap into the crystal clear waters. With its shallow waters make it perfect for swimming, and with the lagoon\u2019s startlingly blue waters, colourful fish and caves to explore it\u2019s also a great snorkelling spot. Arrive early in the morning to bag the best spot!<\/p>\n

Ramala Bay, Gozo<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ramala Bay is a Gozo\u2019s largest beach and famous for its unique bright orange and red coloured sand. Combined with the stunning blue clear water of the Mediterranean this beach is certainly the most striking one! The curving bay is set at the bottom of a valley of unspoilt countryside and with wild rocky headlands at either end it comes as no surprise that this beach is renowned for its natural beauty. Despite being well known, the sheer size of the beach means it never feels over crowded even during the busy summer months. Soak up the sun, bathe in the shallow waters or if you fancy a bit of exploring, make the climb up to Calypso\u2019s Cave where legend has it Odysseus spent seven years holed up with the temptress Calypso. The spot also offers stunning views.<\/p>\n
