The May Half Term holidays are fast approaching and many of you will be heading off to the Balearics. This year, May Half Term falls in the last week of May and the first week of June. It’s safe to say that the weather will be getting warmer and you’ll be keen to hit the beaches. For more information on the islands, check out our guide to Mallorca & Menorca and Ibiza.

Let’s face it, keeping kids or teenagers entertained for a week can be a challenge. That’s why we’ve put together this selection of things to do in the Balearics.

Half Term in Mallorca

One of the most popular destinations amongst Brits, Mallorca has a huge amount going for it for kids and adults alike.

Not surprisingly for an island, the majority of popular activities are water related. So let’s start with sailing lessons. If your kids think they’ve got what it takes to become the new Ben Ainslie or Hannah Mills, it’s time to get them started!

Wind & Friends in Alcudia have courses starting at €170 whilst you can hire out a dinghy at very reasonable rates. Alternatively, Sail & Surf Pollensa start at €104 for under 14’s and €133 for adults.

If they’d rather get under the water, Mallorca has some great scuba diving sites. Scuba Mallorca and West Coast Divers have something for everyone whether you’re a novice or hold a PADI certificate. Not only does scuba diving open up a whole new world, it’s also good for them!

If on the other hand, you’re staying inland or want a break from the coast, why not consider canyoning in the Tramuntana Mountains? Canyoning involves climbing, jumping, abseiling, and swimming through canyons. Tramuntana Tours is perhaps the pick of the operators and offers 3 excursions depending on experience.

Top Tip Base yourself in Palma Nova so everybody’s happy. Magaluf is a short distance for the older teens whilst Palma Nova offers everything adults and younger children could want.

Half Term in Ibiza

Ibiza’s reputation is slowly changing. It’s no longer seen purely as a party island but is becoming popular with the over 50’s too. This means there’s a wide variety of activities and entertainment available for everyone. The only tricky bit is deciding what to do!

Starting with the ocean again, why not head out on a boat tour? Based out of San Antonio, Chilli Pepper Charters offer both afternoon and evening tours. You’ll discover the best secret beaches and be taken to areas perfect for snorkelling.

If they’d rather head off in a smaller group, then paddle boarding could be the perfect answer. Stand up paddle (SUP) boarding has really taken off in recent years and the Med’s weather makes Ibiza the perfect place to try it.  Sup Boat Ibiza offer lessons, guided tours, and rental boards at reasonable prices.

For a completely different experience, why not take to the air with a hot air balloon ride from Active Ibiza. Granted it’s an expensive activity but definitely worth it if you’ve never been before. Prices start at €130 for kids and €170 for adults.

For the more adventurous holiday maker, Active Ibiza also offer rock climbing excursions. Whether you’re a beginner or Ueli Steck there’s a route for you so why not give it a go?

Half Term in Menorca

The smallest of the 3 main Balearics, Menorca is a quieter location all round but still offers some great activities. With 2 decent sized water parks on the island, there’s bound to be something to keep them entertained for a day at least. Aqua Center is the smaller of the 2 and can be found near Ciutadella. Aqua Rock on the other hand is larger (and pricier) and near Cala’n Bosch – prices are €11 per child and €20 per adult per day.

Cala Galdana is home to Blue Island Diving which offers a full range of water sports. Choose from dive courses, guided snorkel trips, boat trips, paddle boarding, and kayaking. Alternatively, try Dia Complert who offer RIB trips, jet skiing, wooden rafting, and horse riding.

For a quieter day, head to Menorca’s Zoo where you’ll meet various birds of prey, reptiles, local species, and much more. You can even stroke a porcupine if you want!
