Exploring the world without even leaving your home is now possible thanks to virtual reality travel. Imagine being able to walk around your hotel before you arrive. Amble around the country you’re considering for your holiday before booking.
Virtual reality will change the way we plan, book and enjoy our getaways.

What do I need to sample virtual reality?
We’ll start with VR Goggles. They use a combination of HD video and separate eye pieces to immerse you in 3D.
Google have also released some affordable VR options: take a look at Google Cardboard. This isn’t an April Fools, honestly! All you need is a smartphone with a screen sized 4”-7”. Visit the Google Play Store or App Store for iPhone to see what VR apps you can try. Other more expensive options include the Oculus Rift (£415, $599) or Samsung Gear VR (£95).
Try before you fly
Thomas Cook have already offered customers the chance to explore New York, Egypt and Greece using Virtual Reality Goggles before they book.

I think this is where the future of virtual reality travel lies. Can’t decide between the Great Wall of China and the Grand Canyon? Be transported through time and space to see them both.
It will open up hard to reach locations (think Machu Picchu) to everyone. As technology improves, the experience will become more lifelike.
Relive your holidays
Beat the holiday blues by reliving your holiday when you get home.

Imagine being able to use video footage recorded on your break to transport yourself back to your favourite sunny hotspot.
Virtual reality car hire
One day you might be able to take a look at the car you’re thinking of hiring. Not sure what size vehicle you need, check the boot space before making a booking.
Unsure where to collect your car, use VR to locate the vehicle before travelling.
The future
Imagine being able to gather information and research a location like never before. Does this take the fun out of exploring when on holiday?
