With the recent rise in VAT, it’s likely that you’re beginning to feel the pinch in everyday expenses, but now it seems the cost of air travel could creep up too.

At present, VAT is not currently imposed on flight costs however this could change in new plans currently being deliberated by The European Commission which proposes that VAT should be enforced on all flights from British and EU Airports.

It has been suggested that this addition could reduce carbon monoxide emissions; however, travel industry figures have observed that this could have a negative impact on the British tourism industry.

Following a recent increase in APD costs, the travel sector is being hard hit by a growth in international travel expenses which can only lead to suggest that overseas visitors could be discouraged from visiting the UK.

The pros and cons of the proposal are currently being considered and are awaiting clearance by The European Commission.
