Brisbane Airport is just a 30 minute drive from the centre of Brisbane making it a great spot from which to start your Queensland adventure.
Close to both the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast, hiring a car is the perfect way to enjoy the mixture of tropical rainforests, the Great Barrier Reef, and fantastic beaches.
Places such as Tamborine Mountain, North Stradbroke Island, and Bribie Island are also easily reached from here. The city of Brisbane itself offers visitors an array of sights, with the Southbank a highlight.
Things to See and Do in Brisbane
Nestled on the corner of the meandering Brisbane River, the most popular area in the city is often touted as Southbank Parklands. Sample some delicious cuisine at one of the many restaurants along here or laze on the man-made beach. If you fancy getting on the water, why not hop on a boat for a river cruise?
Amble around the Botanical Gardens of Brisbane. For breath-taking views of the area, scale Mount Coot-tha. You should even be able to see Bribie Island on a clear day. When in the city centre, visit Brisbane City Hall clock tower for more fabulous views over the city.
Beer fans should head to the XXXX Ale House for a tour. Here you’ll discover the history of the beer making process and finish with some tastings! Pop into the restaurant once you’ve finished for a bite to eat.
Why not climb over the Story Bridge in Brisbane. Discover the history surrounding this impressive monument. It is especially lovely to see the city from such a great height at night.
A trip to Australia Zoo is a must when visiting Brisbane. Owned by the family of Steve Irwin the Crocodile Hunter, the zoo embraces conservation and offers a fantastic opportunity to meet some of Australia’s most dangerous residents. On your way back, stop off at the Glasshouse Mountains for stunning views.
Spend the day on the Sunshine Coast. Noosa offers many things to see and do, so start with a trip into Noosaville then the ever popular Noosa Heads. If you fancy a hike, you can explore Fraser Island or the Noosa Hinterland. Travel back along the coast and stop off at Mooloolaba Beach for a relaxing afternoon.
When in Queensland, a trip to the Gold Coast is essential. Journey to Burleigh Head National Park and marvel at the wide range of scenery. Choose to wander along the coastline and spend some time at the beach or make your way to Surfers Paradise.
Hop on a ferry to North Stradbroke Island. Locate Brown Lake and Blue Lake then find a lovely beach on which to relax, there are plenty to choose from! The coast is a haven for wildlife, so watch out for turtles and dolphins. Moreton Island National Park is another great day trip too.
Hire a boat on Bribie Island and explore the coastline. If the sea is too rough for your liking, visit the Seaside museum or take the children on a miniature steam train ride instead.
Drive around the winding roads of Tamborine Mountain. Arrange a trip to the Glow Worm Caves or walk along the Rainforest Skywalk. If you fancy something alcoholic (no drink driving though!) make sure you visit the Tamborine Mountain Distillery. Australia’s smallest operating Pot Still Distillery attracts thousands of visitors every year. Discover the true taste of Australian schnapps, liqueurs, fruit brandy, gin, and vodka – just not all in one go!
