From April 1st we’ll be adding a new optional added local extra available in select rental locations! From €8 per day, you can rent the compact portable diesel generator to charge your eco-friendly electric car on the go!

Power your eco electric car with the new diesel generator addon

Want to hire an electric car but worried about not finding a charging point? With the new diesel generator, you can simply buy some fuel from a local petrol station and charge your car on the go. The generator is small enough to fit inside the average boot of a rental vehicle and comes included with a 6m long charging cable. Benefit from:

  • 3300W max watts
  • 8.3-hour extra-long runtime
  • Minimal noise
  • Fuel efficient
  • Eco-friendly!

The standard rental for the generator will be €8 per rental day but can vary per provider. If the generator is damaged or lost due to negligence the costs will be deducted from your security deposit or you will be charged by the provider.

  • Well done guys. Brightened up my day.

  • An excellent April Fool’s Joke.

Although, and rather sadly, with the rather poor provision of electric charging points, if a generator in the boot did really exist, it might come in handy at times.

Most government’s policies around electric cars seem to be a joke every day and not just on the 1st April !!!!

Interestingly some manufacturers are considering developing “range extender” hybrids with factory fitted small combustion engines to generate electricity as you drive. Mazda with a small suitcase sized rotary engine as an example, so the joke maybe not be quite so far from reality.

You got me there for a few minutes I was thinking what a daft idea and charge 8e for the privilege and carry that size of generator about and available from today. Then I remembered the date

    Good morning,
I’ve rented from you before and originally found you from Which?
Regarding the portable diesel generator this seems a strange development for zest. You say this is a sustainable approach. It has been known since the 1980’s that diesel exhaust contains dangerous particulates that cause a range of serious illnesses including terminal ones. You make no mention of this clear down side and indeed this add on may encourage hirers not to use charging points.
    Kind regards,

      Hi Mike,

April Fools! We’re sorry for any confusion we may have caused you, this was fabricated by us as an ironic April Fools joke and the diesel generator is not actually available as an addon for electric cars.

  • Diesel generator for electric cars! A great April Fool joke!!

A planet saving initiative which is to be applauded.
Wooden wheels are also something you might want to consider as a sustainability option?
