Skiathos is only 12km long and 7km wide, but with a good road network, so hiring a car makes it easy to access anywhere on the island.
The beautiful town of Skiathos is the most popular place to stay on the island. The town is based around the old port and there are some brilliant restaurants located alongside the water’s edge. There is some amazing architecture in the town, and there are several ornate churches that are well worth a visit. The beaches, located just outside the town, are one of the highlights of the island with golden sand and crystal clear water.
The Monastery of Evangalistra
The old monastery is one of the most famous religious sites in the Sporades and it is a must see whilst you are on the island. It is set high up in a commanding position and has some fantastic views. The monastery has a diverse history, including being used as a shelter during the Greek Revolution, and has some stunning decorations.
