It might not be a hot spot with an itinerary of must-sees as long as your arm, but there are still many great things to see and do in this wonderfully charismatic city.
Once you've had your fill of the city, embark on a road trip and travel around to uncover the perfectly petite country of Slovenia as a whole.
Sightseeing in Ljubljana
Make sure you see the Triple Bridge which consists of three separate bridges, all of which are stunning. The best time to come along here is at night when you can enjoy the views. During the day, relax at one of the two squares located in the Old Town and visit the Robba fountain and view the gorgeous medieval buildings.
You'll also want to head to the historic castle on the hill where views over the whole city can be enjoyed! The ruins of the Roman city walls are also a must-see. They are located to the west of the city and are easy to reach by foot.
Find Zmajski Most, known as Dragon Bridge, which is guarded by four statues of dragons. Whilst surveying the city, you may notice the dragon motifs dotted everywhere. As you are now close to the open market, pop in and grab a bargain or two.
Daytrips From Ljubljana
Travel towards Bled. If you know anything about Slovenia it is probably that Lake Bled is the most popular attraction in the country. With its fairytale castle in the centre of the lake, it will make a magical addition to your itinerary. Don't miss a trip to the thermal springs situated here either!
Engage yourself with more historical sights and explore the old castle at Celje. Once you have had your fill, visit some of the beautiful churches dotted throughout this city, including the Church of St Daniel.
On another day, you should journey to Koper with your hire car. Travel to the middle of the city where you will find Tito Square, walk to Campanile where you can walk up the bell tower and enjoy fantastic views over the city.
If you fancy a round of golf, then this is certainly the place for you. Journey to one of the five courses nearby. Some are also suitable for beginners, so whatever your handicap, you should be able to indulge in a game or two.
