Perhaps the busiest location in the country is the beautiful city of Geneva served by Geneva Airport.
Explore Geneva and the Swiss Riviera
The best thing about Geneva is its location on the edge of Lac Leman. The lake flows into Rhone River, so Geneva actually hugs the left and right banks of the lake. Situated at this point is the Jet d'Eau which is a large fountain and also one of the city's most famous landmarks. It is also one of the largest fountains in the world!
Geneva Lake is a crescent shape that has numerous other interesting towns and villages on its shores; Lausanne, Montreux, Yvoire and Evian to name a few. Drink in the views and enjoy the numerous activities available here. Go for a swim or hire a bicycle and enjoy a leisurely ride around the perimeter and through the parkland that sprawls from the shoreline.
Organise car rental and venture to Château de Chillon. With written records of the dramatic building dating back to 1006, it is perfect for history fans. The castle is jaw-dropping in beauty with spectacular views. Once inside, you can do a self-guided tour of more than 40 rooms.
Explore the nearby town of Montreux which hosts the world famous Montreux Jazz Festival each year. The city comes alive during the first half of July, when people travel from all over the world to attend this event. Consider a visit any time of year though for the incredible views of the Swiss Alps looming overhead and its beautiful lakefront promenade- it's certainly not to be missed!
Day Trips From Geneva
Winter sports are often the order of the day here so make sure that you journey to the Swiss Alps. Resorts such as Engelberg, Zermatt or Saas Fee are all within 2-3 hours of the airport and provide a great opportunity to hone your skiing skills.
It's very easy to relax and enjoy yourself in the unique Old Town atmosphere. Visit one of Bern’s most important sites - the Clock Tower (Zytglogge). If you are interested in architecture you don’t want to miss Bern’s Cathedral or the Granary.
