Car Hire at Plovdiv Airport.

Tour Plovdiv.

Whatever the season, Plovdiv has many ski resorts on its doorstep along with a variety of ancient monuments in its Old Town.

Plovdiv is encompassed by hilly terrain and offers visitors a fantastic mixture of things to do. Plovdiv Airport is only a 20 minute drive from the city centre, so pick up a hire car and away you go!

Exploring Plovdiv

The pedestrianised centre of the city means it’s easily explored on foot. The Old Town shares similarities with the Roman Forum and is home to some wonderful architecture including the Roman Stadium, Forum, and Odeon. Alternatively, pay a visit to Bachkovo Monastery or one of Plovdiv’s many excellent museums such as the Ethnographic or Flight Museums.

If you’re looking for something a little different, why not take a trip to Aqualand? Home to a number of swimming pools and water slides, adults and kids alike will enjoy this.

Popular Ski Resorts in the Area

The popular ski resort of Bansko is 2.5 hours away in the Pirin Mountains. Perfect whether you are skiing or snowboarding, hit the slopes during the day before exploring the picturesque town for some après ski in the evening.

Borovets also offers plenty of winter sport facilities including night skiing, cross-country skiing, and ski jumps. This modern resort holds many attractions for a wide variety of visitors and is well worth a visit.

Pamporovo is perfect for beginners or those lacking in confidence with a number of easy runs to start on. More advanced skiers shouldn’t be put off from visiting though, as there is more challenging terrain available too.

Exploring Beyond Plovdiv

Travel to Asenovgrad, home of Asen’s Fortress. The medieval fortress lies nestled in the Rhodope Mountains 3km outside of town. You can even make the drive itself part of the fun. The scenery on the way up is stunning and perfect for a road trip.

Visit the ancient city of Stara Zagora to view pre-historic art and ancient monuments. Packed with some excellent museums, the museum of Neolithic Dwellings and Regional Museum of History are particularly interesting and insightful.
