The ever popular Sunny Beach lies just north of Nessebar. As the gateway to the Black Sea Coast, it is served by Bourgas Airport which is 35km away. Rent a car and get the best from the area during your holiday.
Enjoy Relaxing at Sunny Beach
Not only is the 8km long beach Blue Flag accredited, it’s well equipped with sun loungers and bordered by an attractive promenade. You’ll discover a wealth of activities from watersports to quad biking and go karting.
For more family fun, head over to the Aquapark for more water based mayhem. You could also visit Horrorwood, the local haunted house. For something a little less scary, play a round or two of mini golf or try your hand at paintballing.
If you’re after a quiet spot on which to sunbathe, take a stroll beyond the beach and you’ll discover a quieter stretch of coastline that should suit your needs.
Explore the Black Sea Coast
If the pace and buzz of Sunny Beach gets too much for you, head to the ancient town of Nessebar. This UNESCO World Heritage town dates from around the 6th century BC. Explore the ancient buildings and discover the town’s history. Be sure to take a walk along the old city walls, parts of which hail from Roman times.
Why not visit Strandzha Natural Park? It is a fair drive, but well worth the journey. Escape the beach for a bit and experience the wonderful landscapes, diverse flora and fauna and the rivers and lakes.
Travel towards Bourgas and the gorgeous Atanasovsko Lake. Home to a wide variety of bird species and a number of species of orchid, it’s a lovely spot for naturalists. Journey into the centre of the city for a drink and something to eat before exploring some of the museums or galleries.
On the other side of Bourgas lies Sozopol. This historic coastal resort offers the best of both worlds, stunning beaches and a fantastic Old Town to explore. If you are looking to sample some local cuisine, you will have plenty of opportunities here.
The city of Varna can also be found on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. It plays host to a large port, some Roman baths, and a Dolphinarium too.
