Whilst the beaches are a big attraction here, there’s still plenty else to see and do in Varna. From sunbathing on the sands to having a go at the variety of watersports, it's the perfect setting in which to lap up the hot summer sun.

Away from the beach, spend some time absorbing the local culture. There are many ancient roman ruins to discover, such as the large Roman baths in the city centre. Dating from the 2nd century, they’re a great introduction to the city before you discover the ornate opera house and the golden-domed Cathedral of the Assumption.

There’s an abundance of fantastic bars and restaurants to choose from whether you’re after traditional Eastern European cuisine or something more modern. If you’d rather indulge in a spot of retail therapy, Varna is now home to a number of shopping malls.

Day Trips From Varna

Located on the coast, you can choose from a number of day trips. Travel north or south to uncover several bustling resorts or head west and uncover the beautiful interior of Bulgaria.

Why not start by heading for one of the most popular resorts; Golden Sands? Brimming with attractive scenery and great facilities, it's sure to be a fun and memorable trip. You’ll also find the medieval grotto of Aladzha Monastery at Golden Sands Nature Park a wonderful place to visit.

Alternatively, choose St. Constantine and Helena, another coastal town. It’s home to an impressive 16th century monastery as well as the Varna Ecopark which is filled with wonderful plant life. One of the biggest draws however is the mineral hot springs located in the town.

Explore a little further afield and you’ll come to the UNESCO site of Nessebar. Known for its ancient Old Town and cobblestone streets, Nessebar is a truly stunning place to explore.
