Sightseeing in Port Elizabeth
Embark on the Donkin Heritage Trail to get an insight into the history of Port Elizabeth. This will give you access to 51 places. This is a wonderful introduction to this city and best explored on foot. Spot the wide variety of monuments, galleries, and museums along the way.
Home to Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth is widely renowned for its water sports. The plethora of sporting facilities make this the ideal place to try a variety of sports such as canoeing and surfing. If you enjoy scuba diving, there are plenty of breathtaking sites to take on.
The bay in Port Elizabeth is also a great place to go whale watching. Arrange to go on a boat trip and you should hopefully see a humpback, minke or killer whale.
Day Trips From Port Elizabeth
Head to the Island Nature Reserve and hit the bushbuck walking trails. Climb the fire look-out ladders for excellent views of the forest and ocean on a clear day.
Visit the Van Staden's Wild Flower Reserve in spring and appreciate the beautiful blossoms.
Visit the Cape Recife Lighthouse, 7km away from Port Elizabeth which can be found at the entrance to Algoa Bay. This lighthouse has provided protection from the 'Thunderbolt Reef' for many years as it is obscured by the ocean.
Drive to Addo Elephant National Park and try out one of the hiking trails, or head out on a game trail. Home to around 600 elephants at the Hapoor Dam and plenty of Lions and other animals too, you will surely see a good range of wildlife on your travels here.
