Car Hire in the Canary Islands.

Explore the Canary Islands.

Whether you visit the Canaries for a golfing holiday, for the scenery, or just to relax, you’ll be met by warm, sunny weather and friendly locals.

With their rolling sand dunes, lush pine forests, deep ravines, high mountains, and lunar landscapes, these “islands of eternal spring” off the coast of Africa will have something for you. If you’re after a spot of culture, many works by surrealist painter Óscar Domínguez can be seen in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The abstract sculptures by Martín Chirino and César Manrique can be seen on Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.

A guide to the Canary Islands

Holidaymakers looking for a relaxing getaway should set their sights on Fuerteventura. It lies 100km from the African coast, with vast sand dunes and the largest beaches in the Canaries. Fuerteventura is a wonderful spot for some R&R and sunbathing. Choose from spots such as the Costa Calma, which literally translates to ‘Calm Coast’ or the ever popular Corralejo, a lovely resort with a wonderful beach, picturesque marina, and a brilliant collection of shops.

Gran Canaria

The third largest island in the archipelago, Gran Canaria is home to vastly different landscapes with something to suit everyone. Desert-like in the south, mountainous in the middle, and lush and green in the north. If you’re looking to try new water sports, you’ll find scuba diving, surfing, and sailing well-catered for around the coast.

Head to Las Palmas with its two breath-taking bays and wonderful beaches or Playa Del Ingles, where you will find an excellent shopping district. For water sports, Puerto Rico is great for snorkelling or diving.

There is so much to see and do on this wonderful island once you’ve passed through passport control at Lanzarote Airport, or Arrecife Airport as it is also known. With its excellent beaches, perfect climate, and stunning views, it’s no surprise Lanzarote is such a popular destination.

Visit the striking Timanfaya National Park, explore Puerto del Carmen’s lovely harbour and white-washed villas, relax on the golden beaches of Costa Teguise, or discover the magnificent and remote Playa de Papagayo.

The largest and most popular of the Canary Islands, Tenerife sees over 1.6 million Brits visit annually. It’s still possible to escape the crowds should you wish. Mount Teide, Spain’s highest mountain, is a huge attraction whilst the quiet, winding roads provide the perfect playground for cyclists.

The most popular resorts are clustered around the southern tip of the island. Here you’ll find Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas. If you’re looking for a more upmarket side to Tenerife, visit the new Costa Adeje. Here you’ll find 4 or 5 star hotels, classy shops, and some perfectly kept beaches with modern facilities.
