Visitors are likely to arrive at Faro Airport which is approximately one hour's drive away. Renting a car here is a great way to discover everything on offer in this area.
Protected by cliffs, Carvoeiro is home to some stunning beaches which are perfect for sunbathing, swimming and generally relaxing. If you don’t want to go any further than the main hubbub then there is a beach in the heart of the town named Praia do Carvoeiro. There are also four other beaches surrounding the town including Benagil and Praia de Vale; you will be spoilt for choice.
To the west of the village you can see the ruins of the Fort of Senhora da Conceição which was built in 1670 in addition to a chapel. If you enjoy ambling about on foot, then the cliff tops that surround Carvoeiro will be perfect for you.
Places to Visit on the Algarve
If you are holidaying in the Algarve, it is likely that you are looking to play a round or two of golf. Courses in this area include Quinta do Gramacho and Vale da Pinta which is set in olive groves. If you fancy a shorter challenge, the 9-hole Vale de Milho course should suit you.
Head to Portimao where you will find an abundance of activities. Hire a canoe to spend a day paddling on the water and experience the countryside from a different perspective. If however you want to shop for some local goods, then there is a wide choice available here too.
Journey by car to Alvor where you can partake in a range of activities. Enjoy everything from dolphin watching trips to sailing lessons and horse riding to wine tasting.
Hop in your hire car and explore the historic town of Silves. Only a short 20 minute jaunt away, Silves is home to the Castelo de Silves which is set on a hill overlooking the town. Gaze in awe at Sé de Silves and then locate the 3 metre wide limestone cross situated here. A visit here should provide a fascinating day out.
