Explore Ancona.

Ancona is a city full of culture and doesn’t lack any of the typical Italian elegance. There are plenty of opportunities to see incredible architecture, with Ancona Cathedral a particular highlight.

Situated on the north eastern coast of Italy, the city of Ancona is a popular tourist destination. Located approximately 25 minutes from Ancona Airport, you can pick up your hire car from the railway station and start planning where you are going to explore.

In Ancona

The cathedral sits at the top of the hill, overlooking the city, and provides a spectacular addition to the Ancona skyline. The internal and external architecture is in brilliant condition and a trip here shouldn’t be missed.

The city is littered with many other churches to enjoy, including the church of Santa Maria della Piazza. Alternatively, if you want to put the sightseeing on hold, you can head to the beach for some relaxation in the sun. There are also a variety of restaurants serving excellent Italian food, alongside numerous atmospheric cafés.

The Surrounding Area

The city of Ancona is set amongst some incredibly picturesque countryside. There are beautiful rolling hills, with vineyards and small villages, which have resulted in Ancona being nicknamed ‘the new Tuscany’. During your stay, make full use of your rental vehicle and start exploring the area.

You can discover Roman monuments, such as the Arch of Trajan, which is only a short drive from the city. Built in 114AD, it’s carved from marble and covered in intricate decorations. Also, within driving distance is the town of Pesaro. Here you can explore the multitude of sights, including the Ducal Palace and the Rocca Costanza, which was once used as a prison.

If you are after something slightly different then around an hour’s drive south of Ancona is the spectacular Frasassi Caves. This incredible cave system is well-worth a visit as you can see some of the best rock formations in Italy.
