There is a range of fantastic architecture on display here, with the pick being either Santa Maria del Casal or the Tempio di San Giovanni al Sepolcro. Both are worth a visit and it gives you a flavour of the historic significance of Brindisi.
Make sure you take some time to wander around the port, which is newly renovated, and sit to watch the boats come in. Alternatively, if you want to spend your time relaxing, head to the beach and soak up the sunshine. Afterwards, enjoy an Italian coffee in one of the many restaurants and cafés in the city.
Day Trips From Brindisi
If you want to spend some time outside the city, the closest place of interest is a small island just off the coast. You can catch the ferry from the waterfront and make the trip to visit Castello Svevo, the castle on the island which was built in 1227.
Brindisi is also within close driving distance of the Gallipoli Cognato Regional Park which covers an area of 27,022 acres, and includes forests and the Dolomites. It is a fantastic area for outdoor enthusiasts and there are some brilliant hiking trails available.
You can also head along to the coast to Bari for the opportunity to experience a different Italian city. It is only one and a half hours away by car so it is well within range for a day trip. Bari is a great location for shopping and has several interesting museums which will keep you busy all day.
