Often referred to as Toulon-Hyères Airport, Toulon is perfectly placed to explore the Côte d'Azur and the south of France. Hire a car and either head straight to the city or travel further afield.
Things to See and Do in Toulon
Hop on a boat to Porquerolles Island or relax on one of the many beaches here. This area offers the best of both worlds with the Mourillon beaches for more family based fun and the Coves of Méjean and Magaud, if you are looking for something a little less busy.
Toulon does also have a more historical side to it. Head to the centre of the city and look out for wondrous sights such as Eglise Saint-Louis and Sainte-Marie-de-la-Seds Cathedral. Marvel at the fabulous concert hall then wander around one of many museums here.
If you enjoy hiking, then there is some wonderful scenery for you to discover. Mount Faron towers over the area and provides some paths if you are keen to go for a hike. All of the Mountains of Toulon are incredibly well suited for those who like to explore on foot.
Rugby fans are in for a treat with three-time European Cup winners RC Toulon playing their games at Stade Mayol in the centre of town.
Day Trips From Toulon
Marseille is only a short distance away. Soak up the sights in the Old Port area which is flanked by two large forts. Take a stroll around Pierre Puget Park and enjoy some time in this marvellous city.
Travel to Aix en Provence and wander through Cours Mirabeau which follows the layout of the old city walls. Take a trip to the Cathedral Saint Sauveur and marvel at the vast array of styles employed in its architecture.
Well placed for a visit to Cannes, whether you decide to visit during the famous Cannes Film Festival, or in fact head here to relax on the stunning coastline, you won’t be disappointed.
