Things to See and Do in Chania

Land at Chania Airport to explore the largest of the Greek Islands. With a host of activities packed around the harbour area of Chania, there is certainly plenty to see and do in this Venetian Harbour city. Try to locate some local products in this area to purchase and enjoy.

Head to the lighthouse, which is actually one of the oldest in the world and then explore the nearby Naval Museum, full of interesting information regarding this part of Crete. Afterwards, spend the afternoon relaxing; take your pick from the vast array of wondrous beaches, pack your towel and stop off at some of the finest shores in Crete.

Journey to each of the four beautiful churches in the area of Agia Marina. Take some time to enjoy a traditional Greek meal at one of the many tavernas here and sample some of the exquisite seafood on offer.

Nearby Venizelos Graves make another worthy addition to your itinerary. Offering breathtaking views over the hills onto Chania and across the sea, you must stop at a local café and enjoy the scenery.

Rent a car and travel to Platanias. It may only be a village but it is a joy to explore so head to the old town and enjoy the stunning views of the beach or join a boat trip from the harbour. Samaria Gorge is also located here so don't forget to take your hiking boots and explore the area using the variety of trails. Head back into the village in time to watch the sunset over the horizon; it's known to put on quite a show here.

Journey to the city of Rethymno and explore the old Venetian quarter, filled with fabulous architecture. Indulge in some shopping and pick up some bargains too; it's a great place to find souvenirs both for yourself and your loved ones back home.

Why not discover the attractive harbour at Kissamos or perhaps visit the archaeological museum? Whilst in the area, survey the west coast of Crete which is home to Balos Lagoon, arguably one of the most beautiful spots on the entire island.
