Lake Monroe, a short drive from the airport, makes up part of the St. Johns River system. The port city of Sanford is situated along the southern shore, while DeBary and Deltona are located along the northern shore.
While at Lake Monroe, take a relaxing cruise along the St Johns River. Sample the local cuisine and enjoy the chance to take in the sights. It is the longest river in Florida and is significant for its commercial and recreational use. At 500km long, it winds through or borders twelve counties.
Why not visit Edgewater? A charming Intracoastal waterfront community town, it’s home to many species of birds, fish, dolphins, manatees, and other wildlife. With over 150 acres of parks, including a Riverwalk, it’s great for walking, jogging or bike riding.
Arrange a trip to the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Filled with over 400 different species of animals, this is a great place if you wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the larger theme parks.

Less than 90 minutes’ drive from Sanford Airport you will find Saint Augustine - a luxurious and romantic holiday spot. There's much to see here including a variety of historic sights, beaches, dining, and even outdoor ice skating!
Gainesville is a short drive away and provides numerous historical areas to explore. Amble around the Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
Enjoy a round of golf at one of the many courses near Sanford. The Country Club at Deer Run and Timacuan Golf and Country Club are particular highlights.
You may wish to use your hire vehicle for the 2 hour trip to Jacksonville. Firstly, stop at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. As the second largest art museum in Florida, it has received international recognition for its Old Master and American paintings, beautiful formal gardens and renowned collection of Meissen porcelain, as well as their art education centre.
