Sacramento Airport serves the city of Sacramento, around 90km north-east of San Francisco. It’s a great base from which to explore the huge band of national parks and forests with a rental car.

Visit Sacramento Zoo. It’s quite small but home to over 140 species. There are also lakes and gardens to visit, so it’s a great day out for all.
Take a tour of the museums and other buildings of interest. Try Sutter’s Fort, which dates from 1839. This symbolises the Gold Rush year that hit California and houses 12 cannons and a jail. There’s also California State Capitol Museum, the Crocker Art Museum, and the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament to explore.
Catch a performance at one of the local theatres such as the Crest Theatre in the downtown area or the B Street Theatre non-profit theatre located in Sacramento.

The city of San Francisco and San Jose are only a short drive away. View the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose.
Take a drive through one of the many nearby national parks and forests such as Yosemite National Park, Eldorado National Forest, and Tahoe National Forest. Lake Tahoe is also another major attraction located next to Carson City, with a variety of activities on offer all year round from skiing to lazy relaxing days on the beaches of this freshwater lake.
Spend a day visiting the Old Towns including Folsom, Fair Oaks, Rose-Ville and Elk Grove and learn about the history of the area. Folsom is particularly acclaimed for its many interesting antique stores.
Take a trip to Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, a short drive from Sacramento. Activities include fishing, beaches, wake boarding, and diving.
