Stansted Airport is one of the fastest-growing airports in Europe. Situated in Essex it is just under an hour away from central London and home to many of the UK’s low-cost airlines.

Exploring Essex

Hatfield Forest is literally a stone’s throw away from the airport and is the perfect place for some relaxation. Amble around the stunning Essex countryside and view the Georgian Shell House situated here.

Probably more an attraction for the children, Mountfitchet Castle is an open air museum in Stansted. Wander around a Norman village and step back in time.

Head to Castle Hedingham and view the extremely well preserved Norman castle. Enjoy looking around the castle itself and the wondrous gardens that surround it.

Take a trip to Harry Potter Studios, just an hour away. Made from the sets used in the famous films, if you are a fan, this is a must. You must book in advance, but your entrance to the Great Hall will start off a rather memorable day.

Sightseeing in East Anglia

Rent a car and travel for about 90 minutes and you will reach the historical city of Norwich. Located in the heart of Norfolk, Norwich certainly lives up to its tagline as a fine city.

Visit Norwich Castle, which was built by the Normans under Henry l’s reign and was completed in 1121 AD. It is a museum and houses a large number of exhibits, ranging from The Twining Teapot Gallery to the Boudica Gallery. Be sure to check out the Egyptian Gallery which houses a collection of Egyptian Mummies and artefacts.

Based in and around the city centre are The Norwich Lanes which are a group of alleyways and communal spaces which are home to a vibrant independent retail area. The area is a treasure trove of vintage shops, retail stores, restaurants, bars and quaint cafes. Not to mention an abundance of historic buildings and medieval architecture.

Hop in your hire car and journey to the university city of Cambridge. Why not while away an afternoon on one of the official guided tours? There are a number on offer, ranging from bike tours, ghost tours and tours of some of the colleges which make up Cambridge University, including King’s College and Queen’s College. Punting is also a must!

Whilst in this area, make sure that you visit Ely. The cathedral here is breathtaking and certainly worth exploring further. Discover the house of the Cromwell family then saunter along the water side and stop off at a local café.
